Pulling together a color palette for a room can be a stressful thing. You want your room to feel cohesive but the thought of a matchy-matchy room makes you cringe. A great place to start is an area rug that you love. Area rugs are designed with colors that are complementary and if you love the rug, you’ll know that you’ll be happy with the colors pulled from that rug.
When you’ve found a rug that you love, there are a couple of ways to create your color palette. If you have (or can borrow) a Pantone color guide, you can use that to match colors to your rug. Another option is to grab color sample cards from your local paint store. There are also online tools like Stylyze that can create a palette from an uploaded image. Just be careful to double check the printed version of the colors to make sure they match your rug before you use them to purchase paint and accessories. Sometimes things look a lot different on a computer screen than they do in real life.
